About

I've been involved in journalism or communications in one form or another for almost 20 years, most recently in senior positions with some of the largest companies in the world. I'm currently at Tencent, the company behind WeChat and one of China's internet champions, overseeing the global press office and building out a robust and efficient global communications team across from media relations to the website and social media at a time when both technology firms and Chinese companies are coming under increased regulatory and political scrutiny. Prior to joining Tencent, I spent nine years with HKEX, the operator of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong and London Metal Exchange, building out its digital communications team from scratch and winning the Best Digital IR 2019 award from the Hong Kong Investor Relations Association. I continue to regularly provide communications counsel to C-suite executives, including thought leadership through executive blogs, speeches, op-eds, and digital campaigns. I'm most excited about the convergence of communications and technology, which is injecting new energy and potential into the communications industry. We often research and test new approaches, particularly in the areas of automation and storytelling. On the side, I co-host the PR & Law Podcast with employment lawyer Ewan Christie on PR and legal issues that make news each week. I also curate the Digital Bits PR & Communications Newsletter to share some of the best articles, tips, and insights from around the web to other communications and marketing professionals. Lastly, (if there's any time left!) I write the occasional article on technology for the popular 9to5Mac website, and continue assisting the World Economic Forum to stage its signature events in Davos, Tianjin, Beijing, and Southeast Asia. I've been involved with WEF for more than a decade. If we go back far enough, I worked as a reporter, morning show radio news anchor, and legislative correspondent in Vancouver. I also covered the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing for a national radio network in Canada. My articles have appeared in the New York Times, Washington Times, and Canada's National Post.
